Development

In 1999, the producer Shinji Mikami stated that the sequel to PlayStation 2's "Resident Evil" was under development. Resident Evil 4 has gone through a long development process, and at least four versions of the game have been discontinued. The first version was directed by Hideki Kamiya. At the turn of the millennium Resident Evil 2’s author Sugimura Togoshi created a script for the game  based on Kamiya’s idea of creating "cool" and "fashionable" action games.  The story revolves around the mystery of the protagonist Tony Tony is an invincible person whose skills and intelligence are higher than normal, and uses biotechnology to explain his superhuman ability. Since Kamiya felt that the playable character did not look brave and heroic enough in a fixed-angle battle, he decided to cancel the default background in the previous installments and chose a dynamic camera system instead. The team spent 11 days in the UK and Spain photographing objects such as Gothic statues, bricks, and paving stones for texture. Although the developers tried to integrate the "cool" theme into the world of Resident Evil,  Mikami felt that he was too far from the roots of the survival horror series, and gradually convinced people that it was an independent game. ...The resulting new Capcom franchise, Devil May Cry, was released for PlayStation 2 in August 2001.
